You all know I love Tolkien.  Last month, during the holidays, my daughters asked to watch The Fellowship of The Ring (yes, I am a successful father in that I have taught my daughters about good literature…and fantasy!!).  Once again I was captured by the beauty of this exchange between Frodo and Sam.  This time, though, what grabbed me was Sam’s statement.

 

When was the last time that you made a promise?

 

What about the last time you were willing to sacrifice greatly to keep the promise?

 

Notice that Sam just about drowned in his effort to keep this promise.   This is the path to success!  This is how to Live Well.  Make this your practice:  keep your promises!
