Keep on moving

Dory, the little blue fish of Finding Nemo fame has swum back into the spotlight with her own movie.  My daughters are disappointed in me that I don’t really want to see the movie (they can, of course, go on their own).  I suppose I’m sort of tired of Pixar retreads, but regardless, the movie gives rise to a good memory from the first film.

Early in her relationship with Marvin, the father of Nemo, she tries to encourage him.  She tells him “when life gets you down…know what you gotta do.”  To which she happily replies “just keep swimming” and then launches into a song of joy about keeping on.

And that wisdom is key to Live Well.  In the end, life is hard.  It’s never NOT hard.  Sure, at times things may seem easier than others. Dory Someone will ask how you are doing and, upon reflection, you think “things are pretty good right now.”  But even then, in those moments, life is fraught with challenges.  There will be bills to pay for which you don’t have enough money.  There will be difficulties at work or in school.  And usually there will be some sort of relationship challenge…maybe not a crisis but just a challenge with another human being or two.

When that comes, you always have a choice to make.  Well, actually several choices to make…but one of the key ones will be connected to moving forward or giving up.

Never give up.  Never stop moving.

Its the next step in life, the next day you live when the unexpected can happen.  It’s that next door you open when a solution arises or a new opportunity emerges, the kind of moment that completely changes the equation.

So, as you begin yet another new day….just keep swimming.  There is NO solution in quitting, in just giving up, giving in.  You can make it one more step no matter how bleak things may appear to you.

There is genius in the determination to go one more step.

Be the brilliant one….just keep moving.
