A Woman of Virtue

Proverbs 31:10-31 has long been known as a passage of Scripture that describes a godly woman.  The writer of wisdom expresses many wonderful aspects of this woman.  She is trustworthy.  She works alongside her husband as an equal partner.  She manages big decisions of the household including major purchases.  She cares for those less fortunate who obviously are lacking anyone to “mother” them.  She knows how to speak with wisdom.  She works carefully, diligently and never “suffers laziness.”

At the end, the writer expresses the foundation on which this woman’s life has been lived:  “a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”  This woman starts all of her work, all of her direction in life with a central position of acknowledging the supremacy of God in life.  She lives her life in such a way as to always put Him first, clear that He controls and leads all aspects of life.  In doing so, she gains “reward for all she has done” and acclaim, certainly from her children and her husband but also from others, comes her way—“Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

My wife is such a woman.  Today is her birthday. With my lovely bride! - Version 2 Of course, every day she’s alive is a good day for me, but her day of birth is a special day.  She is everything that passage talks about.  I won’t reiterate the list…go read it for yourself and you’ll know my wife better.  The best part is that I am blessed because of how deeply our trust runs.  She is my safe place, my comfort, the one who holds me close when I am scared, sad or disappointed.

I get to work with lots of women, both peers and students who I attempt to teach and mentor.  To each I say the same thing–come know my wife and learn how to walk in the world as a woman of virtue.

The world is a tough place.  Harsh things happen.  In the midst of those storms of life, being a person of virtue, of Christian morals helps you stand.  Kim is that person.

Happy birthday my love.
