“…to follow Christ means to care for others (as well as oneself) and work towards their flourishing, so that life would go well for all and so that all would learn how to leave their lives well.” Miroslav Volf
It’s been just about 30 years since my love for Jesus went from that of a boy into something far, far deeper. What I thought I understood as merely a way to live life–“yes, I’m a Christian and I go to church and I try to be good”–shifted to understanding what it really means to believe in Jesus and then live as one of His followers.
I just started reading a new book by Miroslav Volf called A Public Faith.
So far, it’s really good (I’ll probably contribute more as I read along and when I finish). As he starts, though, he really communicates well the reason for how I live, for why I even write this blog. That sentence leading the blog is the most precise summation of why I entitled my website, this blog, Live Well.
I think that’s all I want to say right now. A very short post compared to my normal. I get it that Christianity, to many, is the problem, not the solution. I see how expressions of one’s faith, especially when it impacts or leads to commentary on issues within the public debate, for some come off as intrusive or irritating. But that is what God does…His great love for us is an intrusion, at times an irritant as He pulls us away from our base desires and towards true human flourishing.
My prayer is that you keep reading. Not all of my posts are necessarily “Christian” themed, but all of my posts (well, maybe not ones about sports or the SEC—LOL!!) are aimed at caring for you, for your well-being, and to “work towards your flourishing.”
