Wednesday History Note: Paul, first century missionary

“The whole law can be summed up in this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Paul, writing to churches in Galatia (modern day western Turkey), is trying to urge his readers to have some restraint in their actions.  He wants them to know that they are free from onerous religious laws, but that their freedom in this regard is not a license to do whatever serves themselves best.  In fact, the sentence before this one, he said “use your freedom to serve one another in love.”

Today, here in April 2016, decide to make that kind of lifestyle your own.  Instead of making choices and decisions simply based on what makes you feel best, use the freedom we still having the USA to serve others, remembering that all of the religious laws can be summed up in treating others exactly how you would wish to be treated.
