For my regular readers, you know that I am sharing excerpts from my most recent book, Tracking the Storm.  The core idea is that rough times may be ahead of us, based on the pattern of history.   You can read the first excerpt here or the latest one here.  When a storm comes, the key to the house successfully making it through the stress is the foundation.

Life is like that.  So, what is the foundation for your life?  As the storms of life swirl around you, on what are you building?

We are putting a small addition on the back of our house to expand our living area (the house wasn’t really constructed for 5 adults when it was built in 1955).  Today, they poured the footer for the foundation.  This is the deep trench where they pour concrete upon which all of the pressure of the structure will stand.  It’s pretty important.

Kim and I both had the same idea of placing some Scripture references into the wet concrete.  We wanted to remind ourselves on WHO our foundation stands.

Psalm 127:1  — Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is useless. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

Josh 24:15 — But if you are unwilling to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”

Job 1:10 – You, God, have always protected him and his home and his property from harm. You have made him prosperous in everything he does. Look how rich he is!

Psalm 18:2   — The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold.

Psalm 27:5 – For [God] will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.

As you move through the rest of your week, take time to deeply think about what ideas, philosophies and beliefs make up the foundation of your life.
