“We sit down before a picture in order to have something done to us, not that we may do things with it.  The first demand any work of art makes upon us is surrender.  Look. Listen.  Receive.”

 —C.S. Lewis

I love Lewis’ eloquent defense of the arts and that such things (including works of music, literature, sculpture and dance) do something to us.  Want to be a person of success?  Make time to visit a museum.  Buy tickets to the opera or a concert of classical music.  And when you are there, still your mind that thinks to criticize or make fun of what you do not understand.
